Be careful when cleaning your braces. When employing your brushing and flossing routine while wearing braces, exercise caution and brush slowly and safety to avoid accidentally damaging them. Because flossing can be tough with braces, it may be necessary to add an additional level of treatment such as mouthwash. In addition, follow these fantastic tips to keep your braces clean and strong:

– Always attend any appointments that you schedule with your orthodontist.

– Always take the time to soak your retainer and keep it clear from bacteria and contamination.

– Even with braces, you still need to brush your teeth twice daily and floss once every day.

– If any wires break or snap off your braces, cover the broken end with a piece of wax and see your orthodontist immediately.

– Avoid foods and snacks that can get easily stuck in between your braces and teeth, including chewy sweets, hard or tough foods and snacks, and various types of nuts.

– Always wear safety gear when playing contact sports or doing high-risk activities, including mouth guards, face masks, helmets, and any other safety gear that is necessary to protect your mouth.

Were you aware that the position and alignment of your teeth have a significant effect on your oral health and dental function, just as much as they impact your physical appearance? With time, minor alignment issues can cause dental attrition complications and dental fractures. These affected areas of tooth enamel may become vulnerable to severe tooth decay.

Adults with minor-to-moderate alignment issues are often uncomfortable with the concept of wearing traditional braces on their teeth. Fortunately, Dr. R. Cree Hamilton and Dr. Jeremy Manuele offer Invisalign® to improve the alignment of your teeth without the need of overt orthodontic hardware.

First, they will perform a thorough examination to determine the overall health of your teeth and define your alignment goals. Next, Dr. R. Cree Hamilton or Dr. Jeremy Manuele will create an impression of your teeth, to be sent to the Invisalign® dental lab. The technicians will use this to develop a series of custom aligner trays. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually adjust the periodontal ligaments which anchor your teeth into the sockets.

The alignment process hinges on your diligent wearing of the Invisalign® aligners for at least 20 hours each day. Then you will need to switch to the next set of aligners every two weeks. Each new set of aligners will bring you one step closer to your ideal smile. While wearing the aligners during the prescribed times, you will be well on your way to meet your alignment goals in about the same amount of time it would take for braces to align your smile.

One advantage of the aligners is that you can drink and speak normally while wearing them. However, you will need to remove them before you eat. Of course, you will not want to smoke or chew gum while the aligners are in your mouth. When you’re not wearing them, please keep the aligners in the case provided.

If you are in the Las Vegas, Nevada, area and you are concerned about alignment issues with your teeth, you should call 702-243-3300 to schedule an Invisalign® consultation at Hamilton & Manuele Orthodontics. We look forward to helping you with all of your smile alignment needs!
