Genetic and certain environmental factors can sometimes have a profound effect on the alignment and orientation of your child’s permanent teeth. This can sometimes cause an overstated underbite or overbite to develop their bite pattern.

Not only can this leave your son or daughter with an unattractive smile, it can also increase their chances of suffering dental fractures and chronic dental attrition. Later in adult life, these dental health problems could foster severe cavities and other complications.

If your son or daughter has a pronounced overbite or underbite, you should consider scheduling a braces consultation at Hamilton & Manuele Orthodontics’s orthodontic clinic. In many of these cases, traditional braces can help correct the problem before more serious complications arise.

After the brackets, wires, and other components have been installed in their mouth, your son or daughter will need to return to see Dr. R. Cree Hamilton every few weeks for a routine adjustment.

This will tension the braces to gradually bring their teeth toward their correct alignment and orientation. The total number of adjustments necessary to correct the malocclusion will vary based on severity.

Once their teeth have been fully corrected the braces components can be uninstalled. Going forward your child will need to use a retainer to make sure your teeth hold their new position.

If you live in the Las Vegas, Nevada, area and your child has a pronounced underbite or overbite, you should call 702-243-3300 to set up a braces consultation at Hamilton & Manuele Orthodontics’s orthodontic clinic.

Are you traveling for the holidays? If so, then you need to do what is necessary to keep your braces in top-notch condition. This means you need to care for them regularly. If you do so, you can stay on track toward your perfect smile as you visit and celebrate with family members and friends. Our orthodontists, Drs. Hamilton and Manuele, are happy to help you by giving you the tips you need.

-Keep up on oral hygiene: You should brush your teeth after each meal and snack and then floss your teeth at least once a day. If you can floss more, do it. To do these things, you need to remember to pack your soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, dental floss, and dental flossing tools.

-Reschedule your adjustment appointment: If your next appointment is scheduled for when you will be out of town, then it’s best to reschedule it sooner than later. Our team will be happy to discuss a time that is best for you.

-Stay away from braces-harming foods: Avoiding these foods can help you avoid damaging your braces, which can also help you stay on track toward your top-notch smile. So, make sure to stay away from hard, sticky, and hard-to-eat foods.
